Kurzbeschrieb des Inhalts: Gruppensettings spielen im Rahmen von Evaluationsprojekten eine grosse Rolle, insbesondere wenn partizipativ, nutzungsfokussiert und formativ evaluiert wird. Sie eignen sich, um Evaluationsfragestellungen zu klären, den Evaluationsprozess auf Kurs zu halten, um Daten zu erheben, zu interpretieren und die Nutzung der Ergebnisse einzuleiten. Im Vordergrund dieses Kurses stehen vorwiegend qualitativ ausgerichtete Gruppenmethoden als Erhebungsverfahren. Zur Veranschaulichung verschiedener Konzeptionen der Gruppendiskussion werden im Seminar drei sich stark unterscheidende Ansätze (Fokusgruppe, 'Fishbowl' und das Modell zur Erfassung kollektiver Orientierungsmuster nach Ralf Bohnsack und Iris Nentwig-Gesemann) vorgestellt und anhand konkreter Praxisbeispiele verdeutlicht.

Kurzbeschrieb des Inhalts: This course provides an overview of cost analysis in evaluation, including concepts and definitions, analytic frameworks, measurement of cost, placing monetary value on program ingredients, and conducting cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, cost-utility, and cost-feasibility analysis. Targeted at evaluation students and practitioners with foundational knowledge in evaluation, the course asks: Is a given program worth what it costs? Is it cost-effective? Do the benefits justify the costs? Does the value or utility for different stakeholders justify its costs? Participants will be able to (a) distinguish varying forms of cost analysis; (b) understand problems in the design and implementation; (c) identify and measure cost, effects, benefits, and utility; and (d) combine and interpret information for use in evaluation.

Kurzbeschrieb des Inhalts: This course will begin with an introduction to practice standards guiding evaluation work in North America: The American Evaluation Association’s Guiding Principles, the AERA/APA/NCME Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, and the Joint Committee evaluation standards. Using these standards and specific cases, Professor Yarbrough will illustrate evaluation design, responsiveness to context factors, and ways to address evaluation quality, improvement and accountability. Participants will engage in problem solving related to evaluation challenges and should be prepared to work with evaluation cases (own or provided). There are no prerequisites for this course, other than the ability to understand English. The presentations will take place in English, but participants are encouraged to discuss and ask questions in German.

Dazu stehen im deutschsprachigen und insbesondere englischsprachigen Raum zahlreiche Datenbanken zur Verfügung. Der Kurs gibt eine erste Orientierung über Datenbanken, die evaluationsspezifische Quellen beinhalten und führt in Recherchestrategien ein.

Suzanne is currently Assistant Professor of Health Communication in the Institute of Public Communication and Education, Faculty of Communication Sciences, University of Lugano.
Kurzbeschrieb des Inhalts: This workshop will teach participants how to effectively communicate their evaluation results to a range of diverse stakeholders. New approaches to communicating results will be presented with special focus on meeting the needs of policy makers, funders, a broader group of stakeholders and the media. It’s a mistake to believe that all audiences will read reports; a range of different modes need to be used to communicate key messages to the “right” people, in the “right“ way and at the “right” time. The workshop will use a mix of lectures, case study illustrations and hands on interactive work where participants will get to practice and receive feedback. The course will be held in English, but participants will be encouraged to use German or French for their written exercises.

Kurstitel: Contribution Analysis Workshop

Dozent: John Mayne PhD. John Mayne is currently an independent advisor and consultant on public sector performance. Until 2004, he was with the Canadian federal government, where he worked in the Office of the Comptroller General, the Treasury Board Secretariat and the Office of the Auditor General. Dr. Mayne was instrumental in the development of the federal government's approach to evaluating the performance of programs. He was involved with the development of government-wide accountability and reporting regimes, and effective approaches to managing for results and performance measurement. In the national audit office, he was responsible for the audit areas of accountability, governance, alternative service delivery, and performance measurement and reporting.
Kurzbeschrieb des Inhalts: This workshop will introduce the concepts of contribution analysis—making contribution claims about cause and effect for interventions in the absence of counterfactuals—and discuss the latest developments. Contribution analysis will be situated within theory-based evaluation approaches. New approaches to developing and representing theories of change as a key element in contribution analysis will be presented. Examples of contribution analysis will be used from work in Scotland, Canada, France, Brazil and South Africa. The workshop will work through examples of contribution analysis using cases from participants.
